MTV Shuga just added another award to the trophy cabinet!

On Friday the 29th of June, we broke the news on social media that MTV Shuga had just won another award. Africa’s Hottest Drama won the “Best Use of Communication Channels” in the Demand Creation Challenge but the good news doesn’t end there!

Along with two other winners in the global challenge, the MTV Shuga team will be jetting off to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, on the 21st of July to take part in OPTIONS Consortium’s Insight to Impact conference. This event serves as a lead-up to the International Aids Conference which will be taking place at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre on the 25th of July.

Our television show was one of more than 20 submissions in the Demand Creation Challenge and after being evaluated by a panel of judges. Along with MTV Shuga, independent non-profit organisations such as Girl Effect (Best Breakthrough Creative) and Grassroots Soccer (Best Demonstrated Impact) were also named as winners while a number of noble causes earned honourable mentions.

#MTVShugaDS scored highly on a number of criteria which included: reaching specific campaign objectives, using strong rationale, producing strategic content, evaluating the impact of our work and finally, reporting on our results.
The panel of judges included:

  • Kim Ahanda, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
  • Mary Aikenhead, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Karl Hoffman, Population Services International (PSI)
  • Lynn Leonard, Johnson & Johnson
  • Brian Nachipo, Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care
  • Peter Piot, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Here’s some more information about OPTIONS:
