Getting tested

If you are sexually active and don’t know your status, the best thing to do is go for an HIV test. It is the only way to confirm if you have HIV. You can’t tell by how you look or feel. In fact, you can have HIV and not experience any symptoms for many years, while still being able to infect other people.

If you’re not infected, it will be a relief to know, and you can choose not to put yourself at risk in the future so that you can stay negative. If you test positive, you can get more information about your status and receive the medical help that you need.

The most important thing about taking an HIV test is that you will know you status. You will know where you stand instead of being worried about the unknown. Once you know your status you can make the right choices about your health.
